  • Abstract:
    The paper describes the risk of inadequate quality control in North American real estate mortgage market. Fraud is identified as a major matter for concern. Existence of fraud, types and methods used to implement it are detailed. The particular problems of fraud, especially internal, ocurring in financial institutions are detailed; also the impact on profitability and the reluctance to prosecute. The various stages of the fraud process throughout the life cycle of a real estate asset are shown by means of an analysis of a case study.
